Tausendfach schwirren die Bands durch Raum und Zeit. Hier ist erb_gut, eine junge Formation, mit dem erfahrenen Trumpet-Man Peter Schärli an Bord. Fünf Musiker, die sich vorgenommen haben, auf dem Boden zu bleiben und abzuheben. Die Band hat sich mit ihrer CD-Veröffentlichung eingeklinkt in den Lärm der Betriebsamkeit - und fällt auf.
Da ist etwas zupackend Entspanntes in ihrer Musik. erb_gut haben eine direkte Verbindung zur Jazz-DNS. Sie reduzieren Überflüssiges, verbinden Tradition und Moment, werden heiss und kühlen ab. Der Sound lässt eine Gelassenheit erkennen, die Band eine klare Haltung. Motive und Harmonie-Module erhalten Gewicht, ohne dass Zwischenspiele erdrückt werden. Elemente aus Jazz-Rock, Free Funk und archaische Jazzmomente werden Kompositionen.
Die Wechsel aus Kollektivspiel und ruhigen Klangoasen machen die Musik angenehm. Griffige Mechanik und weit ausholende Flächen, in denen die Klänge auch experimentell durcheinander driften. Der Gitarrist bringt Akkorde und Skalen-Groove in jazzigen Flow, der Saxophonist ist in seinen intuitiven Riffings erstaunlich fortgeschritten, der Trompeter hat eine lyrische Seele und eine grosse Energie, der Kontrabassist macht Puls, der Schlagzeuger tut das Nötigste zum Ziel.
All das zusammen fliesst in diese Musik, die den heutigen Anspruch auf Leichtigkeit mit Leichtigkeit einlöst. Die Band verzichtet auf ausgedehnte I Imponierkünste oder repetitive Delirien. Die Wucht ist dosiert. Das kann abgehen, wie der Titeltrack „Radius" zeigt. Als erster Kontrast dazu „Pelicula", eine Traditionsaufbereitung in balladesken Schönheiten. "Hektik" rollt ein wie ein Thriller auf Trance.
Da ist ein Debutalbum. das mitten im Sog des Modischen die Jazzgeschichte nicht vergisst. Das Ergebnis ist lustvoller als Fusion, durchlässiger als Free-Funk. Die musikalischen Statements tragen keine Verbissenheit. Die Energie ist im Landeanflug. Eine Band von Tausenden hat aufgesetzt. Der kleine Jazzplanet funkelt freundlich.

Thousands of bands are constantly whizzing through the reaches of space and time. Here now is erb_gut, four young musicians, with the experienced trumpet-man Peter Schärli on board. A band who decidede to touch ground and space out. With the publication of its first CD the band has found a place for itself in the bustle of activity that ix the recording industry – and it stands ouf from the crowd.

There is something grippingly relaxed about this music. erb_gut have a direct connexion with DNA of jazz tradition. They cut out the superfluous, combine tradition with spontaneity; they apply the heat, and then cool it down again. Their sound has a laid back quality:this is a band with definite attitude. Motifs and harmony modzuls are given suitable weigth, though without the interludes being squeezed out altogether. Elements derived from jazz rock, free funk and archaic jazz momnmets have been crafted into compositions.

The music owes its charme to the alternation of full ensemble playing with peaceful oases of sound. Technique that does not lose its grip, and widely ranging surfaces on which the sounds sometimes drift into each other in a quite experimental way. The guitarist puts a groovy flow into the scales and chords, the saxophonist has an astounding maturity in the intuitive riffs he gets off, the trumpeter has a lyrical soul and tremendous energy, the bass player gives the beat and the drummer does all that is necessary to achieve the desired result.

All these elements join together to create a kind of musical ligthness which easily lives up to contemporary musical expectations. The band avoids extended showy displays and repetitive hysteria. Its power is doled out with measure. This can take off, as is shown by the introductory track “Radius”. “Pelicula” first provides a contraste to this – a traditional concoction with the beauty of a ballad. “Hektik” bursts in like a trance thriller.

This is a debut album which, while responding to the currents of fashion, does not lose sigth of the historic tradition of jazz. The result is more pleasurable than fusion, more transparent than free funk. There is nothing relentless about this kind of musical statement. The energy is all in the way you come down to land. A band in a thousand has just touched down. And the small jazz planet twinkles approval.
