Joy Garrison, Tochter des Coltrane-Bassisten Jimmy Garrison.
Joy, die inzwischen in Rom lebt, trat mit Musikern sowohl
aus den USA wie aus Europa auf. Sie hat inzwischen fünf
CDs unter ihrem eigenen Namen herausgebracht, aber keine ist
wie diese: aus 200 ihrer Lieblings-Standards hat Joy Garrison
neun herausgesucht und versucht, die Stimmung zu vermitteln,
die sie befällt, wenn sie diese Songs interpretiert.
„Angel“ ist dabei, eine Komposition ihres fantastischen
Pianisten Claudio Colasazza, ebenso wie „What I Was
Before“, zu dem Joy den Text schrieb und das sie ihrem
über alles geliebten Ehemann gewidmet hat. „Hush
Littel Baby“ schließlich ist ebenfalls kein Standard,
aber gesungen für ihr ‚Sunshine Baby Girl‘
und in ihrer Interpretation wird es zu einem!
Acclaimed Jazz Stylist, living and performing in Europe a
native New Yorker (daughter of Jimmy Garrison, bassist for
the late John Coltrane) living abroad for the last ten years.
Joy has performed with Jazz artists, both american an european.
She has five CDs under her belt but not like this one. She’s
chosen nine of her 200 favorite jazz standards and has tried
to sing you into the mood that she’s in when she sings
them! „Angel“ was a gift to her from her fantastic
piano player Claudio Colasazza, who was in love at the time
with someone angelic. „What I was before“ is another
gift from Claudio, but the words she wrote. They are totally
dedicated to her then, now and forever husband. „Hush
Little Baby“ not a standard, but sung for her „Sunshine
Baby Girl“ it just had to be! Again she has tried to
sing you into the mood she’s in when she’s singing
them.
